Front wheel spacers
For the brain trust...
Is 15mm too much up front? I’m thinking of going 15mm all around on my stock suspension 2000S with the factory 18” twist wheels. |
Nope - 15mm all around looks sharp (with OEM offset wheels). Plus and allows you to have 20 identical lug bolt lengths as opposed to two different sizes should someone not as attentive as you reinstall your wheels...
Good luck :) |
I have 15 mm on the front and 23 mm on the back with 17" turbo twists. Looks awesome!

What’s the offset on the rim? I need to buy spacers for front and struggling to decide between 10mm and 15mm. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro |
I use 12mm all around and it looks good

12mm all around with stock offsets

Gents,
Thanks for the input. I already have purchased a wheel stud conversion kit that will accommodate up to a 15mm spacer, so I’ll go with those. If I find 15mm too much, I could get my brother-in-law to mill off some thickness in exchange for a box of beer. I’ll post up some before & after pics, but not until after the snowbird in-laws get back from FL. Free shipping in the CONUS is great, I just have to wait until the middle of April for the goods to arrive. As mentioned elsewhere on the forum, I’m way to German to pay for shipping if I don’t have to. |
For those adding spacers, can I assume that you also need longer lug bolts equal to the width of the spacers? Or will the stock blots work?
|
Beyond say 5mm, you'll need longer bolts

15mm front, 23mm rear looks just right.http://986forum.com/forums/uploads02...1519154671.jpg

Depends on what you use the car for. By adding a front spacer you change the front suspension geometry which affects your scrub radius. Ideally you would get wheels with a different offset.
|
heliguy,
Tight and right. That looks amazing. Thanks for putting up some pics. My parts come home in April. Looking forward to seeing what mine looks like stanced out. |

I found the increase in scrub radius (15mm) to be a god send for front end steering feel. |
I just put a set of 15mm spacers on the front of my 2.7, and was pleasantly surprised at the better steering feel. Plus it does look noticeably better with even that small increase in the front track.
Now that the fronts looks so good, I've suddenly noticed that the rear would look so much better if they had 15 or 20 mm spacers... |

I put 15mm all around, same for me surprised at that slight better feeling in the handling.

Must agree, the car feels more planted with the additional track.
I am dealing with a wheel imbalance issue though. It seems that any wheel imbalance is magnified when they are moved outward, so a wheel rebalance is in order. |
Steve,
Way back, I had a badly balanced spacer. Very unlikely but that is what I narrowed it down to. I had to fight like hell to return it. ....so don't rule that out. I found H&R to be of very high quality and reliability. Where as there have been problems with others |
