Convertible top cable

The dealer just contacted me and told me that the part he ordered 3 days ago hadn't arrived yet due to the weather conditions and delays. He says it's a cable in the convertible top that needs to be replaced. Anyone knows what this cable is, how much it costs roughly and whether or it's easy to install? I'm thinking of picking up the car ( I can't wait) now and fix this problem later when the weather is good.

A cable? Can you be more specific. Is it in the headliner?

For what issue? I know there are two cables on the sides above the engine.

I'm not sure but he told me that the top won't work properly unless this cable is installed.

I guess maybe just check the sides of the top if you can next to the rear window. There is one cable per side that presses on to a little ball (a ball and socket fitting). That could be it. If he is saying it has to be installed..hmmmmm. Maybe there is something in the headliner that pulls the top back. Dunno.

Does your dealer offer you a free rental car?

I just bought the car last week from RI (5 hours away) and am going to pick it up this weekend. I want to know if it's ok to drive the car with these old cables on. Thanks Tool Pants very informative post :)

If it is the cables we were talking about on renntech then no problem. Just do not operate the top or you can break expensive parts.
