Just found out Boxes still use a Coil!!!
I remember my Old Porsche 912 using an old blue bosch coil...I KNOW for a fact that these are sold at autozone....Would it hurt anything if i were to upgrade the coil, and the sparkplug wires to more high performance types like MSD?
Here it is, http://www.************************************************************/productpage.aspx?pid=103587&name=Jacobs+Energy+Coi l |
I would have thought that they would have direct coil over spark plug by now.
|
Weird, the image i have of the 986 engine looks to have coil packs over the cyclindars....is one of our sponsers trying to sell us stuff that doesnt fit our cars?
|
oh wait, i found the coil on our engines....it doesnt look anything like the coil our sponser is selling. it looks more like a coil from a HEI equiped Chevy. The type that sit in the distributor cap.....Ours sits right above the AC compressor.
|
nevermind, i think thats the oil filler cap........bottom half looks like a coil though LOL

The oil filler cap is not in the engine compartment. Gary |
thanks, i already realized that but i didnt want to post it, i already posted too much on the subject

Hi,
There really aren't any ignition wires per se, just the wiring harness to each individual coil pack. But, you don't really want to fool with the OEM wires or swap them out for Hotter Aftermarket items. This is because the DME is tuned to, and monitors, the resistance in the stock wires and will deviate if it senses a change. It may swap fuel Maps or alter Spark Duration or Voltage. These changes may well be invisible to the Driver, but MPG, Performance or the longevity of the Exhaust/Emissions systems, maybe even the Valve Train, could be adversely affected over time. Hope this helps... Happy Motoring!... Jim'99 |

Just leave the car alone and it will reward you...I promise. You already have that "the sky is falling" mentality that MNBoxster was talking about a few threads ago. Just enjoy the car! |
It is a sweet car as it is designed.
Perhaps a new shift knob????????? Or, a nice German beer on draft. Or a key fob, Oh, you get the idea! |
Yes i noticed that also, I wouldnt dream of touching those wires....I know its nothing close to the same as changing wires on a 1967 ford mustang.
|
LOL yeah point taken. I would look to replace that black circle cap on my shift knob that tells the the gear location with a colored version depicted in the owners manual....same knob, just white numbering.

I've got an ichiban shift knob and its pretty cool, I get lots of complements about how low it is. All you have to do it take a grinder to your shaft and lower it. I can do that because it has the screws that hold it onto the shaft. The bottom of my knob sits about flush with the console, major difference. I suggest it 100%.
