Were these wheels really offered as an option on Boxsters in 2003?
My first post here. :)
The owner of this car is telling me that the Turbo lightweight rims 18X9 (or 18X9.5 he's not sure) shown in these pictures were actually an option on this car. He bought them seperately though. I think they look too big on the car and are a liability in my decision to go for it: http://s7.photobucket.com/albums/y267/tonikaram/car2/?action=view¤t=exterior2_gray03.jpg http://s7.photobucket.com/albums/y267/tonikaram/car2/?action=view¤t=exterior_gray03.jpg Were they really offered that big for the Boxster? Wow, I think those rims look outstanding, and I don't really get too jazzed about wheels. They either are or are good knockoffs of the SportTechno 18" which were optional on the 2003 996, C4S and Turbo.

it's likely.
I think my 18" Carreras are 9" in the rear 7.5" up front. Yeah those wheels looks to big without an aero package (GT3 front bumper and side skirting). Reminds me of my big wheel back in the 70's. |
When ordering your car, I'm pretty sure you can get any wheel in the Tequipment catalogue when ordering which would includet that wheel. It may not be a "listed" option but Porsche will pratically give you whatever you want when you order so basically anything within reason is an option. You can't exactly order a 3.8L TT motor in your boxster, though I'm sure through Porsche's special sales program you could get that if you really wanted to spend the money. They will do ANYTHING you want basically. I remember seeing an article where a guy had all kinds of special items painted, the car was painted by Porsche a special color he specified which was not even in Porsche's line up and custom 3 piece wheels painted to match, special interior etc etc.. He just wrote down what he wanted and Porsche later showed him for his approval then did the required modifications to the car. It's sure not cheap, but prooves they will pratically do anything with enough money behind it.

i prefer the carrera rad's
I very much prefer the original "carrera rads" (shown in the grey boxster above with red calipers). They are beautiful, and are typical of the restyled Porsches post 2003.
I am thinking about getting the car and swapping these things somehow. i'll talk to Porsche themselves. by the way, they are original turbo lightweight rims, he probably kept the receipt. In my experience, wheels that look too big always end up touching the body, damaging both the wheels and the body panels. The manufacturer should advise its clients... all ur Porsches look great.
