987 CD Changer

Any aftermarket CD changers work with the 987 Bose system? Dealer wants 1k to install OEM unit.

Thanks

Any changer w/ an RF modulator will work. However, you may get some frequency interference in some areas.

(and it won't sound very good)

If you get a good one it will. I had one in my SRT and it sounded as good as the one in the dash.

I don't see that many of them but those Dodge SRT4 drivers sure love their stop-light races... Velvet, were you similarly afflicted when you owned one?

anything with an RF signal will always have lesser sound quality (cd changer, ipod transmitter) - not too mention, you are also prone to interference and/or static from the station that the rf signal is transmitting on.

if you are one who just likes access to the music and are not ultra picky about volume or every detail and intricacy of the music, then using an RF equipped cd changer will be okay - actually the JVC that's in my beetle (installed before I removed the stock head unit and added the Alpine CDA 9807 head unit) has a nicely concealed WIRED remote that i hit under the dash just right of the steering wheel and a WIRELESS remote that allows for nice access of cd's. the obvious nice thing about a system connected to your headunit, in addition to superior sound quality, is the ability to control everything through the head unit.

if you locate an OEM (say from sunset or brandywine) you can probably find a reputable car audio installer with porsche experience to install it and a fraction of your local dealer's cost.

No not really. Though I did have mine HIGHLY modified. So when some chump in his Cobra would pull up reving the engine, it was great to see the look on their faces when I would pull away from them in 2nd gear. Launching was tough as it had so much HP and no LSD.
