Changing oil with car not level
 

When draining the oil on the 986, how much does having your car tilted left/right or front/back affect it?


[I searched the forums and couldn't find anything. Maybe I put in the wrong terms]

The car should be level and warmed up.
It can take more than 30 minutes for the oil to drain

I know ideally it should be level. But I'm guessing not everyone on here using ramps parks on an incline to neutralize the ramp.

I do mine on ramps if I'm not jacking the entire car up for other work. I just let it drain for a while. You might be leaving a little bit more oil behind, but realistically unless you drop the sump every time you do an oil change your won't get it all anyway.

You actually get more oil to drain out when you have the rear elevated 'slightly' higher than the front. If you look at the inside of the oil pan and you can see why this is so. And as others have stated, leave it drain for a while.

Thanks guys! I know the sump on my civic sort of drained posteriorly, so if I had it on an incline it wasn't an issue.
