Clogged cats
Found out from my indie that the cat converters are clogged up, left one almost completely and the right close to it. So what are my options? Pollution is not that big of a deal where I live, no emission testing. So do I replace or cut out, add new exhaust system? What has anyone else with this issue? I just had all four O2 sensors, MAF and plugs replaced.

Try these guys for cheap headers and test pipes.
Top Speed Auto Accessories, Inc. ....or put used cats on the car. Either ebay or try forum member itsnotnova. |
Could be just a hairball...

I have a complete exhaust from a low mileage 2001 S if you original parts

Just 'gut' the old ,plugged cats to ensure that this is the problem. But you will be plagued with Trouble Codes / CEL. Then you can get a good used pair?
|
Does the Top Speed cat test pipes spit out codes/CEL?
|
No, there are no sensors in the secondary cats that these pipes replace. There are some bungs in the set I have but they come with plugs and don't get used. You can gut the old ones as suggested that may be able to be done right thru the opening with the cat on the car.

I'm sorry, I should have said it's a 1998 which I think it has only one set of cats.
|
Yes the 98's only have one set of cat. Pretty certain that you will need to replace them to avoid throwing codes.

If the check engine light being on all the time bothers you then either buy some used cats,
or gut the ones you have and get the electronic downstream O2 sensor simulators that fool the somputer by sending the proper signal for perfectly functioning cats. ~$65 each and plugs into the downstream sensor harness. The cat matrix is ceramic so get out the hammer and a metal rod through the upstream O2 sensor hole and hammer away. Or weld an aftermarket new cat in place (~$185 + welding) Or get some sport cats $$$$ Lots of options. |
Thanks for all the suggestions!
