with a '97 which has manual f/trunk levers you can slide a very thin screwdriver b/w the levers and rotate the locking pin (white) to side releasing the levers...

Otherwise
- try charging battery thru one of the cig lighter ports
- use emergency release cable (check to see if routed to tow hook if not orig owner)
