Clutch question..
Old clutch had a very short pivot stud. The plastic tip was just past the base.
New stud that came in the Pelican master kit has a much taller stud. I can measure tomorrow. What will this do to the action of the clutch and the clutch's performance or longevity? Biggest difference? Thanks. |
I noticed that as well when I did my clutch on my 2000 S last month. I opt not to use the updated: Pivot pin, Release lever, sealing washing and spring, and just replaced some of the existing parts that showed wear. I didn't like how the updated release lever attached to the new pivot pin via the sealing washer. For me, it didn't seem as robust as the old system.

The updated parts call outs are 987 parts. The short stud and old pivot lever were known to squeak.

I’m also working on my clutch, Boxster S 2002 with 86,000 miles, I did some research and find out that the clutch and all parts related were updated in a year 2000, replacing clutch lever 996.116.712.02 with 996.116.712.04 or later version. New version does not have plastic piece holding lever spring. That was possibly another week point in Porsche design. My clutch was already updated, however I need to change the clutch lever because the clutch bearing popped out on one side and clutch lever was robbing against central spring. It is time to change all clutch parts including flywheel, because clutch job is labor intensive. I purchased used clutch kit (in very good condition) from 996 Porsche 3.4 L, however I’m not sure that will fit on my Boxster S.
Question about length of the new version pin; its 26 mm height without threaded part. |
I was just curious how this will affect the catch point of the clutch. Obviously it will push it or disengage it faster, but is the bite point the same?
