Spark plug tubes
I just got new spark plug tubes in today. I've never changed them, but my question is, are they solid hard? I always thought they would be squishy? Ordered them from Germany.

Yes, they are rigid.
|
Yes they are solid/rigid hard plastic tubes. You do have the 'O' rings for them I hope?
Now is the time for ingenuity. Devise some kind of tool to pull the old out. Have fun |
Thanks guys. Yes the tubes came with the O rings. Changing my spark plugs too.
I'm planning on using the bolt and washer method from this post. http://986forum.com/forums/400310-post3.html |
Throwing out another suggestion for removing the old tubes, an expanding boat drain plug.

My O rings were so old that I was able to pull the tubes out with my fingers. I just put my finger in the tube, kinda pushed down and pulled them right out. I was pleasantly surprised how easy they came out. I hope you don't have to much trouble with them.

There is no presents of oil leaking at any of the spark plug tubes. So I'm just going to leave them alone.
EDIT: No wonder there is no oil leaking. Was just reading Pedro's spark plug and tube change and I see this. Note: For model year 2003 and newer, the plastic spark plug tubes were replaced with the metal tubes that only get serviced during engine disassembly. From the 2003 Boxster Service Information Book - under engine changes: "The oil protection tubes are now a component part of the valve lifter housing and sealed to the cylinder head cover with formed oil seal rings." Anyone want to buy a set of spark plug tubes? . |
Well that was easy :)
|
did you keep the walmart receipt to return the bilge plug also?
