Reconditioned wheels?
 

Hi all...
Recently I have been considering taking my wheels to a specialist in the area and getting my 2000 18" Turbo Wheels redone. The specialist says they will smooth the rough spots of the rims and scratches and then repaint and gloss the wheels to their origional luster. its gonna cost me about 125 a wheel to have this done. Has anyone else done anything like this before? Any problems I might want to look out for? I was hoping to get some feedback from others which might have done the same or simular thing.

That's the first time I've heard about this. How bad do your wheels look?

well recently the owner of the shop I have my work done ran my car off the road while test driving it a week or so ago...the rims have scratches on them in several locations. The insurance company wont pay for all brand new rims but will pay to recondition them.
I would say they look bad enough that I want them fixed :(
My 986 is out of commission for about 5 weeks while repairs are being done. I am taking advantage of the downtime and doing some new mods while at it :)

I'd like this info too. I have been considering the same thing. A couple deep scratches on my rear rims.

Well the company I am having my wheels redone at is here on the EAst coast called Wheel Works. Since it appears that you are West Coast you would want someone in that direction. I found someone in the Porsche Panorama called Wheel Enhancement Corp. @ 310-836-8908. They are located in Culver City, CA. If that is too far from where you might live I would still call them and see if they can recommend someone maybe closer to your location.
They can completely redo your rims and clean them up to look like they just came off of the assembly line.

125 too high?
 

$125 per wheel might be a little high. I just found a place that's going to do it for 50 per wheel. We'll see how it goes.

HAS ANYONE TRIED WIDER REAR RIMS? LIKE 911 TURBO REARS, OR MAYBE SOMETHING IN BETWEEN? I LIKE THE FATTER LOOK

I have tried putting wider tires on mine 275s, but i plan on going back to the 255s, imo they create more understeer and make the car alot less fun to drive in terms of fishtailing.

I just had my back rims re-done and I cannot recommend it enough. This is my first experience doing it and the place was even mobile! They came to my office and did it here in about 90 minutes! I had deep scratches and scrapes on both rear rims (from the previous owner) and they look AWESOME now.

$50 per rim too, so $100 total!

It was a pain to actually find a place to do it (internet search), but i did find a place here in Sacramento. If you need this done, you may find that it's worth it!

I have seen prices for re-finishing anywhere between $50 - $200. Being conservative with my $, I would ask the low price guys for some references. Alternatively, why the $200 guys? Ar tehy offering something unique?

I do have a friend whom had his Benz 18"-ers redone for $100 (here in florida). They look great, actually like new.

well I have heard really it comes down to how bad the wheels really are is mostly depending on price. Mine are not bad but when I seeked companies to do this I had decided to go with someone a little more expensive but bot too high. I figured 125 a wheel was a good price to pay to have my 3 year old, slightly scratched/damaged, 18" Turbo wheels to look brand new again. I have been considering upgrading my rims to a lighter center locking hub style wheel, but decided to hold off since I am in the process of completing the Gemballa body kit less the front bumper, since I already have the T-T-P GT2 front nose as posted in some pics I put up a while back. I will post pics for you all once it is done....eta=13 more days until ready to drive away.
