Light problems solution

Felt I could report this as I looked in here for answers.

Last week I had the car on a 2 year checkup. Got a comment on the right parking light not working. All the other lights worked so I went in to change the bulb, but it made no difference. Checked the bulb socket, measured the voltage, tried different bulbs, checked the fuses, the switch, nothing.

After a couple of attempts with the headlights assembly in and out the blinker suddenly stopped working too.

I bought some electrical connector corrosion removal spray and went at it on the headlight connector and pins. Refitted the connector on the car, lubed the seal.

And there was light... :D

The lights on our 20-year-old 1964 VW were dim all around. I complained about the 6-volt electrics and was reminded that they worked fine when new. The advice was to undo all the wires and clean their ends and the connectors on the light units.

It's much easier on these cars. Luckily, my wife traded the Beetle for another car before I got around to that.
