UDP and 111 degree heat
I figured once it got real hot I'd really know if the UDP would cause issues. Well today it hit 111 and when it gets that hot the temperature close to the asphalt is even higher and car interior temps easily can get into the 130s. My poor Boxster was parked for a few hours this late afternoon in full sun and after getting in the car the A/C worked to cool the car quickly and the coolant temp never went past 8. This was all while sitting in heavy traffic. This was the first hot day and tomorrow it is supposed to hit 115. Thought some of you might care to know if you were debating this mod or have it and wondered if it would stand up to extreme heat.

Too Hot?
I'll take 115 in Phoenix any day over 100 in KS with 40+% humidity. It's brutal.

Just curious, how long were you in traffic? I know the low speed fans turn on with the AC, which explains why the engine temp would very slowly creep up to the 8 and then stay there.
If I am in traffic for 30-45 mins (95 deg., very slow moving) without AC, the gauge will move to the right inner side of the 0 and then the low speed fans turn on (about 212F according to obd2), then turn off at 201-203F, then the process repeats. I'm curious if the same thing will happen to you with the AC off/with the UDP. |

Thanks for posting your results. I'm scheduled for 8/19 to have Jake install a UDP and do a dyno run to see what it added for hp/torque.

I am a So. California native myself. Born and raised and left about 9 years ago. Cost of living is too crazy, it's always been crowded (just a lot worse now), what you pay in taxes and what you get in return is out of whack and the crumbling infrastructure and is just sad. Love the weather but Phoenix is pretty damned good too and when it gets hot I remind myself the appreciation from my former California home paid my twice as nice Phoenix home in full. Now if we can do something about the crazy AND imept politicians we'd be better off in both AZ and CA. |

Your car lies to you.. (not joking) what Porsche has the gauge reading? and what the actual temp is? Two different things. Plug in with a PIWIS one day and look at both. You'll see. The BMW guy's deal with the same issue :) Porsche *wants* you to believe what is on the gauge. It's BS after 195.
I mount data temp sensors within a few inches of the factory temp sensor.. so I have other info coming in. I regular see 205-215 in 2.5 race cars with 3rd radiator. The BoxsterS cars with the 3.2 will go 220 all day (but read a nice steady 195 on the gauge) The 987's are even worse :( |
