Need Help with diagnose, car looses power

I recently purchased a 2006 Boxster with less than 50,000 miles. I had it checked by a reliable mechanic. He said the car was perfect, but after I purchased it I discovered at times the car lost power, like it ran out of gas. It seems to happen the most when I initially step on the gas. I have taken it to the garage, and they couldn't make it do it. But as soon as I left it did it again. Two different garages have put scopes on the car and nothing shows up. I am frustrated beyond belief, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Need more info before we can even begin to provide help... when / under what conditions does it lose power (i.e. hard acceleration, gear, speed, full or 1/2 throttle, etc.)? Any work done recently? Assume someone scanned for pending codes via OBDII? And likewise presume condition is not occurring b/c you hit rev-limiter, correct?

As you know I am new to the forum, so maybe I did not post the request the correct way. It is happening now, everyday I drive it. I don't understand b/c you hit rev-limiter

From the limited info available, I'd venture to say that it sounds like a fuel delivery issue. Components to check are the fuel filter and/or fuel pump. But could also be several other things like a MAF. If the car is experiencing the problem consistently, return to the mechanic for further diagnosis.

Terry - you really must take the car to a REPUTABLE Porsche shop or main dealer and leave the car with them to diagnose the fault. A standard (non Porsche) OBD reader will not be able to track down certain problems.
As the others have said, it could be something simple like a fuel pump or spark plug / coil pack but without knowing what the Duramatric / PIWIS tester reads, you will be chasing your tail....

Before you take it to another mechanic. I would test your MAF. I had one go bad a long time ago and what you are experiencing was one of the symptoms.

When starting off from a dead stop like from a stop light, The car wanted to fall right on it's face like the gas had cut off. I would have to rev it and feather the gas just to get moving. It was very unnerving as I was always afraid I would get into a situation where I needed to gun it and the car would simply not move or die on me.

It ended up being a bad MAF even though I never got a CEL as an indication it was bad. Once I replaced it, my troubles went away.

To test it simply unplug it and drive the car, this will cause the ECU to go into a default map and take the MAF out of the equation if it is in fact the issue.

May or may not be your issue but at least it's a cheap check that you can do yourself and save the mechanic's bill.
