cleaning brake bleeder
 

anyone have a plan for cleaning the motive brake bleeder between uses to insure you do not contaminate the next usage. ie, rinsing with alcohol, etc to eliminate any moisture, etc present before usage.

Yes. Clean it with alcohol. Just rinse and repeat.

Best to do it when you are done bleeding. Especially if using BLUE brake fluid. It tends to want to stain.

Brake cleaner works.

I don't put any fluid in the motive and just use it to pressurize the master cylinder. You have to keep a close eye on the fluid level in the m/c, but it is much neater with less chance of contamination.

We use the pump bottle as an air pressure vessel only. Zero contamination issues.

Another endorsement of just using the brake bleeder to pressurize the master. First step for me is to pressurize the master and then bleed out the fluid until the master is almost dry. Then, the brake bleed process, including the slave bleed, uses less than a litre of fluid, which means I have to refill the master 2, maybe 3 times.

I really don't know why you do it that way; we use them just about every day, as they are intended to be used. When they need a cleaning, a little off the shelf alcohol gets them sparkling in seconds. Same for the Tiptronic filling tool as well.

Never had a problem with any of our Motive units after many years of using them this way.
