Chance of engine w/ blown head gasket being ok after 3 months
Most people are familiar with my posts about my car problems.
( http://986forum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=4130 ) I was just thinking today, the way things are going now with the case I filed in the courts,it looks like it will be another 2-3 month before I get it back. I was wondering, assuming the mechanic did nothing at all to my engine other then take it out, what is the chance of still being able to replace the head gasket after it sitting for 3 months and it being OK assuming no further damage was done such as a cracked block or rings shattering.I know for a fact that after it happened I tried starting the engine back up and it did not sound different then the normal one bit,not the slitest noise. It just turned over freely. What is the chance of a ring shattering and it acting like that?I'm not a mechanic but it seems impossible to me. Any more damage going to be done by sitting another 2-3 months? Please let me know what you think... |
I'm no expert, but I'd imagine if coolant got into the chambers it's not a good thing for it to sit. It sounds like it could be ok, but you'd probably still need to open everything and clean it out thoroughly to make sure nothing's still in there.

Hi,
The greatest potential is for damage due to Hydro-locking the engine. If this didn't happen, then you replace the HG and you're OK, but after everything is checked out as John stated. Having it sit shouldn't be a problem. Hope this helps... Happy Motoring!... Jim'99 |
Now,is there anyway it hydrolocked and still turned over like it did?Is that possible?
