I now know how owners feel in Florida and Texas.
It has been so hot in Kentucky now for weeks. I usually drive my boxster as a daily driver in the summer. Not so much lately. I had my box out saturday morning for a cars and coffee for 2 hours. I have not wanted to get it out for days now. My commute is only about 4 miles and then the car just sits all day. Don't want to expose it to 100 degree temps all day. When I get home it is still 94 degrees and don't want to put the top down and go for a run. I guess we just have to be patient until this heat lifts. We might just as well be in Florida. I want my boxster back!!!
Anyone else suffering or is it just me. |
Sorry, meant to put this in the general discussion section.
|
I live in Florida and I drive as If I live in the southern hemisphere. Top down season is from about October to May. But why not drive your car if its hot out? AC is atomic on our cars so drive away!
|
The wife and I really like going for a spirited drive on the weekends and occasionally in the evening after dinner. I enjoy that much more with the top down.
|
For me, top down weather is 55-105. I will run the heater when it's chilly outside, but never run the A/C with the top down.
A sweaty back never killed anyone. |
Just another day with some rain. We had lightning and thunder showers for three days. It got up to a whole 72 today.
|
We've had 18 days of over 100 deg. now. It's brutal. Today is supposed to be around 105 with a heat index of 107. Tomorrow the heat index is supposed to be around 110. The governor was here yesterday to officially check out the "state of emergency" drought conditions. It's a ghost town during the day and at night you start hearing lots of activity and more traffic as people start to get out. My back yard has huge cracks in it and we're not supposed to water as there is a water ban right now.
Feel any better? |
Same here. The box has been put up for a week and my lawn is a beautiful shade of brown with huge cracks. I don't even check the weather forecast anymore because all it says is HOT!!!
|
I know what you mean...
after about 90 degrees I have no desire to put the top down. I routinely drive with the top down throughout the winter (my record is 44 degrees:p) though as the car is pretty tolerable with the windows up and the heater on. FWIW I used to drive my car as a DD year round and in the summer it would be incredibly hot inside especially with the black interior and roof. I always used the sun shades but they only do so much. I eventually bought one of the "pop top" convertible covers and it has been great. It does noticeably cool the interior and I frequently just leave the top down and use the pop top cover to keep the interior cool and out of the sun during the day.

Welcome to my world! Middle of the day is pretty rough but evenings are fine, just crank the AC! I had a guy in a drop top Corvette (his was up, mine down) ask me yesterday wasn't it too hot? Actually, I was pretty comfortable, it was only about 94 so that's pretty good for a July day! I am definitely glad that I went with the grey interior over the black. I drove several black interior cars and there is a definite difference.

Florida and texas has been cooler than the midwest lately. Look up your local temps and look up Miami or Houston, it's ten degrees cooler there
|
try Arizona.
130 F in the car. 115 F outside |
I was in Phoenix a couple of years back. It was 113 that day and it felt nicer than 95 does here. Big difference in humidity I'm guessin' :-)
|
I put the hardtop on the 986 from June to Early Sept. Daily Sun and rain are common and the car stays cooler.
|
I am very fortunate my boxster is my 3rd vehicle. I am glad I can put it up when it is so brutal out. I just miss driving it as it was intended, top down and comfortable. If this heat continues I guess I'll have to move to Florida to cool off.
I'm NOT glad to see others are having the same issues. It is so freeking hot right now I could :barf: |
105 f today...enough already!!!
Not to mention the darn humidity. |
I guess there is a reason I live in the mountains. We got up to 80 degrees a couple of weeks ago. anything upward of 45 degrees and the top is down unless it is raining.http://986forum.com/forums/uploads01...1342695856.jpg

Ok, as long as I'm whining...The exterior temp on my truck said 109 as I was backing into the driveway at around 5:00 last evening. Then it actually rained last night. Just enough to make the humidity brutal today. It's supposed to get up to a heat index of 110 today. Yay! I have cousins that live in Minneapolis. They put shorts on and walk outside when it's 30. I guess we can get used to anything!

In Florida summer = top down A/C on high and seat ventilation on.
