Alloy wheel maintenance?
I have the 18" twist alloys (love how they look though 18's with the low profile tires don't work all that well on our crappy California roads!) and want to know best approach to clean and maintain them. I have alloy wheel cleaner and have read in the owners manual to put vaseline on them! I have also read about simply waxing them. That seems preferable to vaseline which just seems gunky and strange!

P21S wheel cleaner with a wheel brush. Make sure you get inside the wheel too. Buy the 500ml bottle and 5 liter jug, you'll need it.
For tough dirt (stubborn black dots) I wipe with a shop towel with goo gone. Now about the vaseline... do you really want to put that on your wheels which can drip onto the tires which will then kill you? |
Sonax wheel cleaner is by far the best I've used, including P21S (which is a nice product.)
Then a synthetic wax/sealant when they're clean. There are some wheel-specific waxes now available. |
I just spray and wipe. You can wax them to help with dust but mine are clean and dirt free and all I do is the above.

Which posting do you want answered? This one or the one in general discussions? No reason for two identical postings.
