Fabspeed performance enhancements
Anyone have experience with Fabspeed products and packages? http://www.fabspeed.com/boxster.html for their Boxster? They claim a 35hp increase with chip, cat bypass, air intake and exhaust mod package. for $3500.
Here is the breakdown of products of hp increase they claimed when they emailed me: Air intake +10hp Exhaust +12hp cat bypass +9hp chip +14hp Adds up to +45hp?? It this BS? Seems like the most bang for the buck is the air intake and cat bypass as the total parts for the 2 is under $1000 plus labour for extra 19hp. Seems too good to be true. |
why not just supercharge?
I have a used supercharger off of my cousins 97 2.5L. The kit is complete, works 100% with the exception that you'll need an injector controller. Somehow I lost it. Let me know if you are interested. PM me or email if interested.

On that promised 35HP, here is one way to tell if they are legitimate.
Ask them if they will give you a full refund if the car is dyno'ed at less than that increase! If they are for real, it seems to me they would do the guarantee. Keep us posted. |
Sounds like BS to me but that new exhaust system that is coming out soon looks interesting...

My question is it really true in their sales pitch that the secondary cats are not really necessary? What is their purpose to the car?

Powerflow Air intake +10hp?
I just emailed him with some of your questions. If there is a money back hp guarantee in place, I'll start with the Air intake upgrade (+10hp claim) at $395. It'll be interesting to see what his reply would be since I haven't seen increase of +10hp on just the intake alone for Boxsters.
Anyone installed one of these Fabspeed (Powerflow) Air intakes? |

my car's got a similar setup...
(not from fabspeed) and I think the 35hp increase is probably do-able depending on how aggressive the new ECU mapping is.
My car also has the pre-cat delete and I've had zero issues with CEL. |
Performance upgrade stages
Did you do it in stages or all at once? I'm skeptical and want to do it in the following stages, starting with the least cost item:
+hp claims 1. Air flow $395 +10hp 2. Cat bypass $ 495 +8hp 3. Muffler $1095 +12hp 4. Chip $1495 +12hp Anyone install just the Air flow and notice any difference? Or a combo of any of the above upgrades? Before I upgraded to an S, I test drove another Boxster S with upgrades and did notice a significant difference in power from an S without upgrades. However, did not know exactly which upgrades. It was sold before I made my decision to moved to an S. I never drove a 996 before, but the shop person there said that it was as fast if not faster than a 996. Should have never drove the upgraded S! Worth it for the price? |
bought it like this...
I bought mine with all the engine mods already done.
the previous owner did it all at once, and it was $7k all-in (new exhaust, pre-cat delete, headers, throttle body, ecu, and air filter change)...note, they did not alter the intake at all except for using a different filter. I also drove a number of s's and when I drove this one I was quite impressed. I don't know that I'd spend the $7k myself, but it is nice. I'm somewhat sceptical of the piece-by-piece approach...I like the idea of a full package where the parts paly nice together. |
I just confirmed with the Fabspeed guys that they will guarantee hp increase with their products. I'll probably go with the Air intake and the Cat bypass. Air intake is made by Evo and they produce the Cat bypass. About $900 for the upgrade and should increase hp by 18.
Regarding the 2nd cat, he said that it's for noise reduction and should have min effect on emission. We have an emission testing program here and we'll see how this works. Keep you inform of the outcome of the upgrades. |
