brake upgrade
My '97 needs a brake upgrade for track days. What's the most cost effective solution?

New rotors and more aggressive brake pads. Do a search on brake pads, lots of threads talking about them.
You also might want to consider removing and tying back the brake wear sensors to avoid melting them (see
http://986forum.com/forums/boxster-racing-forum/30874-melted-rear-brake-pad-sensor.html
).
