Remove/deactivate cruise control
Does anyone know if you can deactivate or remove the cruise control safely from the 1999 Boxster? I find that I do not use it at all in my driving or track days, and occasionally find that the stalk is bumped and turned on by the dash icon. I worry about accidental activation.
Does anyone have experience doing this? Should I just pull the fuse? It would be nice to get rid of since I never use it nor do I plan to. |
If you can pull a fuse that may be a way to go however I would never remove any wiring or render it (or anything else) inactive for future resale. I would never buy a vehicle that wasn't fully functional.

But if you do remove the complete system (modules, switches, relays, stalk, etc.) then I would be interested in buying it from you. I'd like to retrofit factory cruise to my '99. Be nice to have for the really long road trips.

To permanently deactivate it, you need access to a PST II or PIWIS unit; it is a setting in the DME.
|
Even in the non-egas models?
|
Is it worth the effort? The throttle will over-ride the cruise control, and when you hit the brakes it will turn off.
|
Yes...
... the Cruise function is in the ECU and turned on/off via a PSTII or PIWIS in all the models e-gas or not.

I believe Durametric can also turn it on/off.

When the bulb went out in mine, the cruise control did not work. I believe if you pull the bulb you'll get what you want.

Pedro,
Thanks for the helpful post. Always to the point.Unlike what follows. Perhaps there would be merit to totally removing Cruise Control if: 1. it removed a troublesome accessory -is c/c unreliable -like SAI/AOS? 2. it made useful space to access troublesome components -see 1. above. 3. it reduced weight significantly(no) 4.It could be sold to buy the RMS/IMS/AOS you will need :-). So which is it? |
