CEL on. Says it's the MAF.
 

Driving around today I had the CEL come on. I pulled the code and it said it was a MAF/ vaccum issue. The car runs great, at idle the rpm's sometimes dip but not all the time.

The previous owner changed the AOS last year, could that be the issue? Also how concerned should I be with this? I just got the car last week, I am a little bummed out. :(

Year? Model? Mileage? Any recent mods or repairs done? Actual error codes listed?

2001. 80k

Replaced spark plugs year ago, replaced starter a year ago, AOS a year ago along with PVC valve. Serp Belt, once again about a year ago.

Don't have the codes off hand. I Guess I should have saved them.

same here almost same car for the both of us. but i only have 65K CEL came on for the MAF. cleaned it and its good to go.

Ok. I was thinking of something along those lines. However I am new to the Porsche family, and I guess I am a bit nervous haha.

Without the specific codes it is a shot in the dark. Could be:
Bad Maf
Intake Air leak
Bad AOS
Fouled throttle body

If the car is running ok, drive it until the CEL comes on again. Write down the error codes and check back. These cars are pretty easy to fix if you know where to look.

The AOS was changed last year. I am hoping its just a MAF issue.

There are two theories...
 

- Somewhere around the last part touched is liable to be the problem. Infant mortality or improper installation.

- The part is new so must be another failure.

Get the codes. Post em.

I strongly suggest investing in a code reader or durametric s/w. Enables you to have some basis for troubleshooting or for you to learn how long a problem can be ignored or even how to talk to the service adviser and keep the expense under control.

1+ on the Durametric Reader.

If you had this tool, you would actually be able to see how the MAF is responding to the engine revving, and see if the MAF is bad.

That would then save you any additional guessing as to what part is causing the issue.

I wish Durametric make their software to cover other cars, like my gf's Crossfire, or my Altima.
