Non-S shifter and cables in S
Will the entire Shifter with both cables attached work as a direct replacement.
2003 Boxster (non-S) 5 Speed Part: Complete Shifter with both cables attached into 2003 Boxster S 6 Speed. and if not, Why? Thanks Ryan |
Normally the easiest way to replace a shifter is the complete shift tower, without the cables, which stay attached to the tranny. (Mods like the B&M shifter upgrade require rebuilding of the tower.)
The cables are removed from the old tower, the tower is removed, the new tower is installed, the cables are put back into the tower (with centering tool on the shifter), and you're off to the races. The stock shifter towers work on both the 5-spd and the 6-spd. I installed the 9x7 short shifter tower in my 986, and love it. |

I loved the Schnell shifter as well. It's just a fact that any mod is going to de-value the market value. Boxster buyers are looking for untouched cars. So I think you did answer my question the tower and cables should be the same I hope. Thanks RYan |
I don't know if the cables are the same for the 5 and 6 spd. Sorry.

The parts diagrams on the AUTOALANTA site show 9 cables for the shifter. Someone with more patience than me, can figure out which one is which and what it will fit.
