Boxster Exaust
WHATS THE BEST EXAUST AVAILABLE FOR A 2000 BOXSTER?
|
the 2000 Boxster exhaust made by Porsche. :)

WHY CANT YOU TYPE LIKE A NORMAL PERSON?
|
Most folks who have commented here, who have gone aftermarket are not impressed with the results, esp considering the price.

I will be changing up my exhaust here shortly, will give everyone a heads up how it turns out. I may just take out the converters and leave the OEM exhaust (which is illigal, and will not pass smog anywhere), or take my muffler off and run a couple options:
1) Straight pipe (probably smaller or just the smae size of the OEM pipe) 2) run OEM size tube and throw some smaller Magnaflow mufflers on. 3) do something similar like the Magnaflow Cooper S exhaust My goal is to get a louder exhaust, and not loose any HP. The aftermarket exhaust currently available just doesn't do it for me. FYI: Worked at Magnaflow for 2 years in Sales and Tech Support. |
I installled the Porsche Sports Exhaust (from TEquipment),on my 01', and I am pretty happy with it. It definitely gives the Boxster a fuller (more sportier) sound and it looks pretty classic, as well, but as said before, for a very high price (I paid $1100 for the exhaust). As for performance, I can't really say I have noticed any gains...
I heard both good and bad comments from the Dansk and GHL exhausts. The negative comments usuallly have to do with large/unwanted resonance inside the cockpit. Unless you really want to spend all that money, I would say keep the stock exhaust. It is almost perfect as it is... Humberto- |
If you pull the cats and/or run straight pipes, I would bet you trip a code or two!
Moreover, as a fellow SOCAL resident, I ask that you leave the cats on. Like it or not, we DO have a smog problem around here. Just my two cents. |
If you put a straight pipe, you will very likely be pulled over by the Police for breaking noise regulations (they will hear you coming , no doubt :). And if the Police finds out that you removed the cat (although unlikely unless they know about cars), get ready to pay ~$10K fine....! I bet the EPA regulations in CA are pretty strict...
Also, I wonder if you really will get much performance gain from the straight pipe. The large reduction of back pressure on the Boxster engine might even reduce your HP... Humberto- |

All is good! |
Come on guys, I THINK PORSCHE KID, was just playing....with the font comment...

I had a chuckle when I read Porschekid's post. I don't think he meant any harm.
What I will say is it is common netiquette to not use caps unless you're trying to "shout". Using all caps also makes it a little harder to read. Other than that, welcome to the forum. Bruce, I think you need to get a newbie FAQ going. We're starting to see a lot of the same questions asked every day...what to look for in a used car, what exhaust, what intake, etc. There's already some very detailed answers to most of these questions (e.g. Clubhead's threads takes care of ECU reflash, headers, cats, intake, exhaust). I'd hate to see a first page full of "do ECU/DME chip mods work?" Just a suggestion... - |

We will look at that.
On the flip side, we have the search function, which should do the same thing I think. Also, I like interacting with newbies. Thanks! |
