hesitation

I was getting on the freeway the other day had the throttle at about 3/4 or more, and was using the tiptronic. I believe I was about in 3rd gear and the rpms were getting up there but no where close to redline and the car hesitated and fell on its face for a split second a immediately throttled back because I was wonder wtf was going on. Thottled back up seemed things were fine. I tried 3/4 throttle again a few days later and there was a little hesitation again? Any ideas? this is a on a 98

Have you ever changed the fuel filter? I think they are replaceable on the 98's.

Thats the first thing I thought about, it seems like a fuel starvation issue. I have not changed the fuel filter in it.
