All I can say is bout time. The tread pattern certainly looks unoriginal and more like an all season tire, not an aggressive summer tire. It will be interesting to see how it stacks up.

Reading through the literature and looking at the tread design it doesn't look this tire is going to compete with fast group of street tires people are using for autocross and track days. Michelin is missing out on a huge market right now by not entering that segment.

Michelin has always been big OEM tire maker. I think they're more profitable that way.

That is just a Pilot Sport 3 a successor to the Pilot Sport 2 not to be confused with the Pilot Sport PS2, so there might yet be a Pilot Sport PS3...

As much as I love the PS2's they are outdated and manufactures like Bridgestone and Yokohama to name just two have better tire to offer right now.

How can you tell how high performance or advanced a tire is from the tread pattern? I always thought it was internal tire construction, tread materials and design that really mattered. Otherwise, POS tires with cool-looking tread would be all the rage.

None of the PS and PS2 tires I've bought have ever been recommended for track use.

Generally speaking, "max. performance" summer tires have larger tread blocks/ fewer grooves/sipes, especially towards the outer edge of the tire. Basically, closer to a slick tire equals better the dry grip, less tread squirm, and less chance of overheating and "chunking".
