Widest Tire

I have the standard Boxter 17 inch wheels and was wondering if some one knows the widest tire to put on these wheels and if there is somewhere to look this information up?

This website has a wheel and tire calculator that may help you out...

I have seen 285s front and rear on a 2001 Box in our club. He did have to roll the fenders though. "How wide" really just depends on your goals and your wallet.

I run 275's on my 01 and they barely fit without rolling the fenders. On high compression dips the tires would rub, I have since rolled my fenders and have not had any rubbing since.

I am running 18x10 in the rear, with PSS9's and the car is lowered about 1-1.5"

JMATTA, Big custom wheels is just the thing. How do you guys find this stuff. Thanks.

This one is very good, as well.

The rear set-up on my vehicle is very aggressive @ 19 x 10 +31 offset 275/30/19. In addition, the vehicle has been lowered significantly via adjustable coilovers. As far as width is concerned, this is the widest tire I could use without having clearance problems. As far as the oem 17 inch wheel is concerned, its more of an issue as to how well will such a small wheel ( in terms of width ) safely hold the bead of a wider tire. Correct me if I am wrong, but I believe that the standard Boxster 17 inch wheel is no more than 9 inches wide. If that is the case, I don't believe that you can run anything wider than say 265 and not have concerns about "rolling" a tire.

That is true about the 9 inch wheel, if that be the case. My P-Car wrench always liked to stretch the tire, rather than have one too large for the given wheel...makes the sidewall stiffer.
