Any DIY's on how to remove the convertible top on a 99 boxster?

Some douchebag cut a hole in my wifes porsche convertible top attempting to steal something in the car. They didn't get away with anything but there's now a huge cut in the middle to passenger side of the convertible top. It's rediculous that people have no respect for peoples property these days vandals do whatever they want and get away with it. Anyways I'm going to have to get a new top cause the hole they ripped is too big to patch or sew.

My wife found one for $500 one with a glass window with defroster and i was thinking we would just put that one in ourselves. I looked online and it doesn't seem like a huge deal to take the convertible top off but just incase i wanted to see if there were any step by step instructions on how to do it. Preferably with pictures because when people just describe things i can't picture it in my head.

That sucks. Don't want to go through insurance?

there are alot of threads with links i dont have them. however, you need not only the top but the frame also for it to work on the 99. just a heads up

aftermarket glass tops do not need new frame parts, only Porsche OEM glass tops need frame parts.

Make sure the top you replace is 2003 or 2004 otherwise it does not fit. Also you need to change the frame too. I'm looking for one for my 2002, where you find it?

He has lots of choices

A plastic windowed 97-02 top from Porsche.

A plastic windowed 97-02 top aftermarket.

A glass windowed 97-02 top aftermarket.

A glass windowed 03-04 top from Porsche (with frame) from a wrecking yard.

The last is the easiest (and perhaps best) but the most expensive in parts based on the quotes I've seen.

The first 3 require about the same labor.

How to do it directions for both installs are in the link above so he can judge for himself if he wants to save parts costs or labor costs/hours.

A comparison of the pros and cons of the two types of tops are on the instructions for installing the 03-04 top onto a 97-02 car web page.
