interior door lock/unlock button problem
hello,
i have a boxster W reg (2000). my problem is that the interior door lock/unlock button (the one on the dash with the image of a key on it) does not do anything. it DOES light up, however, when the doors lock automatically when i drive off. this means that when i come to get out the car, i cannot use this interior button to unlock the doors, i have to pull the door handle twice (first time to unock it, 2nd time to get out).
does anyone know what could cause this problem ? i have checked the fuse booklet but could not find a fuse for this button - am i wrong ? if so where is it ?
any help appreciated.

Im not a 100% of this but the boxster may not have come with the Automatic locking doors as you drive off... I do know that SmartTop modules that are installed to allow you to lower your convertible top while driving does have an add on feature which has a function to automatically lock the doors as you drive away.
Could be that either the module wasnt installed correctly, module defective, OEM lock button defective or that is as designed.
Pull off the button cover where the lock button is located and if your car does have the SmartTop module it'll be sitting right behind the cover. If theres nothing there, then its another issue like PCM failure to accept command for the unlock feature or one of the wires has gotten cut.

Sounds like you have the automatic door locking feature enabled. My owners manual mentions that this is programmed at the dealership.

if this is so, then surely i should be able to press the button to lock/unlock the doors ? it looks like the "automatic door locking feature" is working, but the button isn't.

I'm not 100% sure, but I'm under the impression the automatic mode overrides the manual mode. I don't know how you can toggle between modes, but you certainly described automatic mode. My information comes from page 24 of my manual (98 model). ...and it says the dealer can program the various modes (4 different modes on my 98). I don't like the automatic mode, and plan to keep mine manual.

ahh...what you say makes sense. so if im in automatic mode, then the button by design is never going to work manually. so it might not actually be broke after all. ill get this confirmed by a dealer, im sure they wont charge me for advice over the phone...hopefully.
btw, i didn't get a manual with my boxster (only had it a few weeks).
thanks alot.
