What else should I do before chipping my car?

I have a 01 Boxster S. Its desnorked, bmc filter, maxspeed headers, straight pipes and stebro sport exhaust.

Im considering in chipping my car with either REVO or GIAC. And before I do that I would like to know what other performance upgrades should I do before I chip the car, to maxamize performance gains.

Let me know...

Thanks

Check out Jake Raby. Or LN Engineering.

No affiliation with either.

Personally I'd upgrade my IMS first.

Ive looked into the Raby rebuild options. Way too expensive. Rather sell my Box S, save the 15-20gs for the rebuild and buy a 02 911 turbo thats on ebay right now for 35US, very tempting...

Let's see.... you've done everything you can on the exhaust. Backpressure should be non-existent (not the best thing for torque, but you probably know that). You probably know there are other intakes available beyond the stock air box, but little, if any, gains could probably be expected from that. Further along the intake lines you could look at the new thing that Pedro is selling that mounts after the throttle body. There have also been bigger throttle bodies sold, but that doesn't seem to be a popular option.

Besides that there really isn't much for bolt-on, simple power options. Maybe an underdrive pulley would give you a little. A LWFW would make the engine more peppy. Other than that it looks like you're good to go for getting a tune on your car to squeeze out the last little bit that might be there.

The best performance upgrade you can do to that improves acceleration at all rpms, cornering, braking, transitions, lap times... remove weight from the car.

The IMS upgrade is < $1000 USD. Not for performance, but longevity.

On the other hand the Turbo engine is a stronger engine to begin with.

The Turbo, GT2, and GT3 engines are not based on the M96/97, but the old split crankcase GT1 block. They share nothing in common.

996 Turbo's are probably the deal of the century currently.

As Kirk mentioned a UDP would be worth your while. As soon as I finish out my clutch/lwfw work I will be trying IPD's Plenum couped with an enlarged throttle body via RSS. Other than that you are not left with very much more to cover other than camshafts, but at the price point and labor it really is a bit much and not worth it (so I think).

Before chipping your car, you should learn how to drive it!

Don't take this the wrong way. This is true for most of us, myself included. The car is much-much more capable than you are as a driver. So, invest some money and learn to become a better driver.

Then if you require more performance, do some upgrades to the car, or invest in a higher performance Boxster or Porsche.

And, most of these "performance upgrades" are questionable at best. You might gain a few HP here & there, but at what cost in terms of value ($$), reliability, low end torque, mid range power curve....etc.

I would consider having FVD or Evolution Motorsports create a personalized ECU flash for your vehicle based upon the modifications that you have made. Often times, some of these so called "software tuners" simply create a generic program for each Porsche model rather than specifically designing a one based upon your vehicle's upgrades.

to what end? What is your motivation for these modifications?
Track car?

bragging rights?

Try a set of coilovers, cannt imagine you will not love them,

Very few owners of these cars drive them anywhere near their potential. Before worrying about making the car faster, working on learning to drive it faster is certainly sound advice.
