Cloud of Smoke

I have a 2002 Boxter that intermittently emits thick smoke when I start it. Probably once a week. Should I be concerned?? It has approximately 90k miles on it.

no.

Poke around a bit (search), it's a common attribute of our engine design.

Yes, like said before it's in the design with the cylinders lying horizontally flat. Small amounts of oil in the bottom of the cylinders make their way past the rings when the engine cools and subsequently gets burned at start-up. No big deal but a little embarrassing among friends.

Another Ohio member , my car does it too. When my wife saw it puff in the showroom she looked at me with concern. My car has 31,000 miles by the way.
