Subwoofer options...

Anyone have any ideas or experience with subwoofers in Boxsters, or any Porsche for that matter? I need to have a subwoofer in every car I have, and the Boxster is throwing me for a loop here. I've never seen a Porsche with a subwoofer in it, and I cannot fathom where and how the best way to install one would be. I have a Sony CDX-R3000 head unit in it right now, and I really need a little bit of bass. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks!

There are a few options i've seen that work out okay. one is simply to put a truck box with an 8" behind the passenger seat. another, add an 8" to the passenger seat kick-panel. that's kind of expensive because of the fab work required. yet another involved modifying the trunk and building a small box next to the coolant reservoir that fired forward.

here is what i will probably do (and i haven't measured yet). Kicker (and i wish it were another brand, because they are not my favorite) makes an 8" infinite baffle midbass speaker that is only 2.5" deep. It's called an RMB8. i believe with some minor work, a pair could be mounted in the doors.

Bass in Boxster

As a factory option ( Bose sys )you do have the choice to have in place of the space behind the seat a kind of boxe that contains 2 loudspeakers of 6" . You might ask to buy this kind of box to a porsche dealer and use it to install a bigger loudspeaker inside. It should help you not to modify the interior of your car and to enjoy the extra bass !!!

If you want it to look "clean" I would suggest getting a sub off of the new 987. It makes it look "clean" unlike those stupid black boxes you see people put in their trunks of behind their seats. The 987 sub replaces the little storage compartment behind the wind deflector.

I've got the Bose system with the so-called sub right where the rear storage compartment normally sits. It's ok but it's no real sub compared to my previous setup with 2 JL Audios. I think it houses 2 6" speakers.

Maybe you can get creative and somehow drop at least an 8" JL in there.

Whatever you do, make sure that the box is structurally rigid. Using copius amounts of Dynamat for the doors and surrounding areas would help too (which reminds me...I still need to Dynamat my doors). There's nothing worse than a lightweight fiberglass box rattling to the music...

Bose & Bass

You're right that the Bose bass system is not generating extra bass , however the combination in the 987 with the new 8" in the door side is much better than in the past
