Pedro Sport Exhaust mod on a Top Speed Muffler??
So after putting on the Top Speed catback muffler on my 2002 S, and driving it for several weeks now, I am still convinced that I have lost some power compared to the stock muffler. I am by all means not an exhaust expert but it seems like there is too much back pressure and the exhaust is not flowing out as fast as it should. Would it be possible to do the Pedro Sport Exhaust mod on the top speed muffler to increase the exhaust flow without screwing anything up? I would really like to keep the Top Speed because of its lighter weight and because my trunk is no longer an oven. I like how it sounds now, but I would love a more aggressive sound that the Pedro Sport Exhaust mod would bring. So if you guys could give me some input and let me know your thoughts I would greatly appreciate it!
Thanks Mark |
I just had my stock muffler on a 2000S modified by Fister here in CA. with no noticeable reduction in performance. It sounds 100% better than stock. I don't think you will decrease performance with the Pedro bypass.

gerrygug,
Can you expand on the muffler mod?..... cut open and removed some baffles? .... weight change?... throatier/deeper sound - raspier/piercing sound? thanks, kj |
The Pedro and Fister modifications are an aftermarket version of the Porsche Sport Exhaust bypass.http://www.boxsterforum.com/forums/a...tid=8493&stc=1
I hijacked this photo from another thread on the PSE The sound is very nice. No booming resonance, just deeper and throatier. |

Mark,
Generally with aftermarket mufflers, you get more flow and less backpressure. This can sometimes hurt midrange torque, but usually a muffler change alone will not effect power too much either way. People that claim 15hp gains from just changing the mufflers are "selling" a product they want you to buy. I don't think my modification would be a good choice for Top Speed mufflers. The mufflers need to have some back pressure for the bypass pipes to work efficiently, and I believe the Top Speeds would not have enough. If you still have your stock muffler, I cold definitely work with that. Darin |
