Install Help
 

Okay, the brand new convertible top just came in, and its ready to be installed. I will attempt the installation this weekend.

First, though, has anyone installed their own top before? I have a pretty detailed set of instructions that came with the top (from Topsonline.com), and from what I've heard, its a "relatively" straight-forward process.

Any advice at all would be appreciated. Any suggestions of tools to have around in case I get in a jam?

I'll even do my best to take pictures along the way, and hopefully create a DIY article on the installation.

But seriously, I don't want to screw this up...

One of the eight mechanics at my dealer does the top. I have watched him briefly a few times, but never from start to finish. The instructions in the shop manual are worthless to me.

This is going to be once you have done one the next is a lot easier.

Suggest you get soem detailed pics of the current top as you disassemble it.

Might be worth finding as many drawings from PET discs as you can too.

I've had mine replaced by an experienced mechanic and alhough It is a straight forward job, it is also very labor intensive because of the streching and tensioning involved. It may be a good idea to get an extra pair of hands to assist you...

Yea, I have 2 buddies that will help me out this weekend. He also has a garage in case we can't seem to fix things in a whole day. :)

You might want to pay extra attention to the seams at the rear of the canvas top, specifically below the plastic window. Too much tension may make the top split on the seam....I believe also there's some glue or contact cement involved in the process.....

I just checked the website you bought your top from and wondered which of the three you purchased. Bottom of the line or top of the line German material?
