How do I get the radio tools back out?

I just finished installing a rear speaker kit in my newly aquired 2002. It was a piece of cake until I tried to get the radio removal tools back out of the radio face. What's the trick to it?

On each side of the radio is a blue plastic thing you push on hard to remove a key.
