1500 for clutch and 500 for motor mount
 
Ouch 7500 mile service at 24k (yearly maintenance)

They want to replace the clutch because they hear it slipping and they want to replace a motor mount that is cracked.

Clutch $1524 and Motor mount $546.

Anything sounds fishy about the above?

I just had my clutch replaced [lazy] for a 1000.00 including parts.

Motor mount cracked unusual, you may find the center of the motor mount has moved out of position. It can be repaired.

Fishy - Yes

They heard it slipping???
You feel it slipping, you may hear the engine rev when it is slipping.

But to hear it slip is "Fishy."

Get a second opinion from someone independant.

Well I'm kinda freaked...I talked to an independent shop, didn't bring it in, but they said that if the clutch is slipping they wouldn't drive it because it could take out the flywheel if it goes and that's another $900.

They only quoted me $200 less than the dealer! :(

I'm not too worried about the motor mount since it will be covered under an extended warranty. If they want to replace it fine, the extended warranty is 0 deductable. So they can go to town for all I care...the $1500 for the clutch kinda hurts. I bought the car second hand, so the first owner could have been a bit abusive....not really sure.

Usually a clutch slipping causes no damage except that you look bad, sitting at a light reving your motor and not moving.

I have never heard of a slipping clutch hurting a motor.

When you start the motor up in the morning.

Is it hard to get into first gear or reverse.

When you are driving down the road, lets say 35MPH put into 5th or 6th and step on the gas. Does the motor then rev up and you don't move or does it lug down and you go slower, kind of chug chug...

If you do not rev up when you go into a higher gear at a low RPM.I would say your clutch is fine.

Caveat - hard to diagnose over the internet. Any shop can check for a slipping clutch, it does not have to be a Porsche shop.

Those are signs which I have alway's used. Just don't do it often it's hard on the Boxster.

Hmmm....hope I didn't just get screwed...I think I'm going to assume I didn't just so I feel better, but I didn't have any of the above problems... :(

Although I do admit, I'm not really much on knowing how to diagnose car problems and I really don't know what to listen/feel for...

A cracked motor mount can act like a binding clutch. I have read/seen the motor mount behind the drivers compartment slip out of place.

Well either way, $1700 later the car runs fantastic. Its so easy to press the clutch in now...never knew how light the clutch was supposed to be. The car rides as smooth as ever and they fixed a rattle in the door for me, which is really nice. They said one of the screws in one of the speakers was coming lose.

Oh well...the car is even more of a dream to drive so I'm happy with the money expenditure.

In my experience Porsche North Scottsdale is trustworthy.

It must have been some previous owner who broke a motor mount and fried a clutch in 7500 miles. I guess they sold it because they got tired of losing at stop lights!

Sorry you had to go through this so early in your ownership. It snowed today in New York, so do us both a favor and take a drive out to Bartlett Lake and enjoy your rejuvenated ride :)

This may come a bit late but it's true. A bare clutch plate will cause metal to metal contact with the flywheel and badly scour it. Skimming it is one cheap way out but I would recommend replacing the flywheel if that comes to that. And $900 for a flywheel??!! Man, that's ridiculous!
