Boxster winter tires

Can you fit the front wheels on all 4 corners with good 205x17/18 winter tires(2001 BOXSTER S) they say the narrower the tire the best traction you have!!Please help.

For some basic information, try Tire Rack's Winter Tire Tech page at

I'm not sure I would want a 205 on the rear. Maybe a 225. Unless you will be constantly driving on/in snow, the skinny rear tire will make the car trickier to drive in DRY conditions.

For the 986 S, the base wheel was the 7 and 8.5 x 17. The Non S base wheels were 6 and 7 x 16s. If you have the base wheels already, why not try fitting one on the back to make sure it clears the brakes and suspension?

I bought Cup wheels w/winter tires from a fellow board member and all four are front rim/205/55-17 tires. They fit fine on my 2001 Base, no issues with clearance in the back, it just looks a little funny because the tires are so narrow in the rear. Have not had a chance to test them in snow as of yet. It figures as soon as I buy them and slap 'em on we haven't had any good accumulating snow. As far as handling, I can't really tell a huge difference, but I don't corner with them like they're summer tires on 80 deg pavement.
