				Love my new short shifter!!

Got my new short shifter installed into my 01 S, 6-speed. Love it! it was from maxspeed motorsports, got it for around $80. Shifts are so much shorter, and feels so much more accurate. I've always thought the OEM shifting was too loose, and DEFINITELY too long. now it feels so much sportier when driving.
was worried before the install because other members seemed to hate the short shifter after installation. but i love it. SO glad i did it. probably the best $80-100 i've spent on my porsche yet!

				 Short Shifter

Could not agree more! Just had my new Schnell short shifter insatalled in my '04 Boxster S and it is great. I however had some experience in that I have a Schnell short shifter in my '88 944 Track car so I knew it would be good. I just got the Boxster S and couldn't stand the OEM shift experience. I am now looking for some advice on Cold Air Intake kits for the Boxster S. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Spottersl

Does the Maxspeed short shift kit lean to the left or does it stand straight up as if it were OEM?

Blink,

If your shifter leans to the left, then you have the same short shifter I have.

When I took my car to Imagine Auto thay noticed it and fixed it.
The short shifter that leans to the left is made for right hand cars. you have to remove it and turn it around.

They did it for me and now my stick is straight again |

Yeah about that.....

The eBay short shift kits are supplied by Top Speed, recently they redesigned the shaft bolt(?) to were you can't flip the shaft anymore.

So it's stuck leaning to the left.

			Sorry to hear that.
I did not mind the lean to the left. But after I fixed it I was glad I did.

Does Top Speed offer any ideas on fixing it??
If not they should let buyers know about the lean.

Got any pictures? I'm sure there's a way around that "problem".

leaning to the left? damn glad mine doesn't do that. spend a little more $ and get the schnell or maxspeed shifter. i got mine from ebay too, but from the maxspeed retailer. saw some cheaper ones on ebay for $50 but decided to spend that extra $30-40 and get a brand i've heard of and trust

i wouldn't call it a performance mod, but the sound did improve greatly.

really? always thought headers, intake, exhaust are the natural first performance mods people get. so you didn't really notice any gains in performance with it?

How difficult is it to install? I thought I saw some threads that gave me the impression it is a pain. On a scale of 1 - 5, 1 being oil change and 5 being clutch change, where does this fall?

nnope...other than the sweet sound...haven't really dynoed it, but maybe it did gain tops of 4-5hp which u cant notice. there were dyno pics of jsut the intake on the web somewhere showing 6hp gain.
and headers and exhaust wont get you much either in this car.
to get noticeable power u gotta spend some mad money on these cars.
if it was this easy to mod them and get a lot of power, people would feel cheated by porsche that they paid a lot of money for 'performance' car and the company didnt squeeze all the power out of them.

btw, look in the how to pages, on the last page, there is a how to that i did on installing my intake w all the pics, and there is a video at the end so u can hear it, it sounds wicked after 5k

I was thinking of getting a B&M short shifter. Anyone have advice vs Scnell vs B&M vs other?

I am about to get the same thing. Did you get a replacement linkage for it as well? Also, was it fairly easy to put in?
Thanks

On the replacement linkage, does replacing the linkage reduce the side to side movement of the gear shift while its in gear??

My movement to shift gears is tight but once its in gear there is a large amount of play. Would replacing the linkage fix this?
