new owner needs help
Help... I somehow reprogrammed my '98 boxster key today... Does anyone know how to reset it?
If I hit the lock or unlock button on the remote now, the LED blinks on the key but the car door does not lock or unlock! I can still lock and unlock the doors by manually inserting the key but it is just so frustrating!! Please help?? Love the site by the way! Any ideas? Thanks Dave. |
Remove the battery and put it in upside down. Then remove the battery and put it back in the correct way. If that does not work and the battery is good then I think your remote has given up the ghost.

Hi, thanks for your response. I tried it as soon as I read your post but unfortunately it didnt work. The battery is good and the LED still works but still no locking or unlocking. Not ready to quit on it yet though. Any idea how much a new remote costs and where to get it programmed? Am I tied to the main dealer as Im living in Ireland and over here we are 'financially raped' everytime something goes wrong with the car!! Anybody else have any ideas? Thanks again for your help.

Hello,
According to the Porsche Owner's Manual "if the vehicle is not started or unlocked with the remote control within 5 days, the remote control standby function is switched off (to prevent discharging of the car battery)." To fix: unlock the driver's door with the key at the door lock. Leave the door closed in order to prevent the alarm system from being triggered. Press the center locking button on the remote control. The remote should be reactivated again. I hope it's as simple a fix as that....good luck. :) |
Davesher, I know how you feel I'm having the exact same problem. At the moment I have resorted to using the key in the door lock, but I know how annoying it is having to put the key in the ignition and turn it to de-activate the alarm just so you can get into the boot.
I wish I knew how to fix it but I think the only solution is a new key from Porsche. :( |
I hate when the remote is designed to make us look foolish! :D

Thanks boxster or briefs. I gave that a try but still no joy. This is cracking me up!! How can there be so many of us with the same problem? I will keep checking back here for any more ideas. Thanks guys, Im just going to have to keep messing about with it in the hope that I fluke it.
