New Updates : GT3 Brakes, BBS replica Wheels and GT3 Steering Wheel

Got my new Xmas presents to myself installed. The weather is a joke here at the moment and I need to bed the brakes in, but they already feel superb. Got a track event in January to really test them out.

Also Managed to get the car on a rolling road today. Managed to get 243hp and 225 lb/ft but it was wheel spinning a little on the rollers. The operator thought it was around the 255-260 hp mark on a dry day. Happy with that!

Cheers!

That looks very nice!!! i love the look of those HUGE calipers..

Gary in BR 12-08-2007 04:00 AM

I love the brakes, how much bigger are the rooters over stock?

noone986s 12-08-2007 07:02 AM

They are now 380mm which is 30mm larger at the front. The 350mm's are now on the back. The biggest different in the caliper, the pads are huge compared to the old ones so I expect some pretty powerfull braking and zero fade.

Hey Noone986s,

I love your suede steering wheel. Was that an option or aftermarket goody?

Where can I get one?

Thanks

noone986s 12-08-2007 08:07 AM

It's from Ninemeister in the UK

http://www.ninemeister.com/

They exchange yours and re-trim it with Alcantara and Leather to look like the GT3 one. Its pretty much identical to the genuine GT3 one but much cheaper.

Thanks

Looks really nice! Enjoy!

Noone986S, very nice. Like others have said, those calipers are huge! Looks great.

Steering wheel is nice. I think on an actual GT3 the 12:00 mark is yellow.

bmussatti 12-08-2007 01:11 PM

Noone986s, are you sure about the size? I thought the GT3 front brakes were 350mm. Are those 6 piston or 4? Thanks.

linkjones 12-08-2007 02:08 PM

Where did you get the brake kit? How much did it run you?

noone986s 12-08-2007 02:14 PM

Yeah the size is 350 not 380, sorry, but as my wife will confirm I am always trying to claim things are bigger than perhaps they are :). They are the six piston calipers.

Your pic is a 997 which does have a yellow tab. The 996 GT3 and RS has red stiching and an optional red tab. As I said is pretty much the same, not identical. I dont believe the 996 GT3 made it to the US

The brakes are all OEM porsche parts, supplied by Ninemeister in the UK. www.ninemeister.com. You need the GT3 front hubs and a small spacer for the rear. You would laugh if I told you how much, especially with the USD to GBP rate but they were comparable to a brembo or AP racing option.

Thanks

Woo hoo 100 posts, can I have an avatar now

Will doing this mod increase the life-span of the pad and rotors, for the average daily driver (not a track car)? You would think it would with the improved performance and size of the pads and contact area.

I find the black GT3 steeringwheel not to the interior equipment that fits. We have made only recently for a customer with 996Turbo a steeringwheel in savannah with middle mark, this looks more harmonious.

Thats very cool, but my original one was Black so it seemed right to change it for the same.

noone986s 12-09-2007 11:37 AM

I suppose in theory the larger calipers, disks and pads will do less work on the road, I am not sure to be honest.

Cris 12-12-2007 02:31 PM

Larger brakes on a street car may actually be less efficient in braking. Brakes pads work better when they reach their operating temp. With a larger brake setup, your brakes may not be able to attain that temp (bigger rotors and pads takes longer to warm up), resulting in decrease in efficiency. For everyday driving with regular street pad compound, the issue is probably negligable. I wouldn't try to put race pads compound on the setup on the street though.

Nice

Hey nice calipers...as Dudley would say the give me the &%^$#$* horn lol.

Nice wheels by the way.

David N. 12-14-2007 10:38 AM

Is that rear wheel hp or engine hp guesstimation? 255-260hp at the wheels means you've done something to the engine, I wanna know what:)
