Short Shift Kit on the 6-spd
I installed my short shift kit last night....I couldn't stand it on the 6-spd. Way too notchy, not like it was on the 5-spds. On the 5-spd it was a great feel, really sporty. On the 6-spd,feel like a damn track set up. Thankfully the bushings worked to reverse the install. I ordered 2 short shift kit,one my my 986 S and 996. Both have the same tranny and I don't want it installed in either. My loss your gain. I will let the other kit go for less than I paid.

At least I'm not alone. The previous owner installed a B+M in my '00 S and I couldn't wait to get that thing out of there. It just didn't work for me one bit. I'm thrilled to be back to the stock shifter.

works for me
the B&M shifter definitely requires more effort to shift. but i like it a lot. no more hunting for 3rd; it just slots right in. the stock shifter was all over the place.

You now have the same setup I do Blink. Stock shifter with the aluminum bushings. I knew I made a mistake as soon as I installed that kit...the feel was way to stiff.

I finally got a chance to take the car out again with the original shifter. I've never loved that long throw from 1st-2nd more. It's also nice to be able to find Reverse as well.

Did you put it all the way back together before deciding that you didn't like it?
I installed one of the $59 ebay short shifters on my 2003 Boxster S today. Before I put the shift knob back on it felt like it was going to be way too stiff. Once I had it all back together it felt great. I'm really happy with the my short shifter. |
