Noise from the front end. Any ideas?

I have a clicking noise coming from the shocks on the front of the car (2000 2.7) and was told it was due to the fact that the shock sets right down on the wheel. Has anyone had this issue? I was also told it is a common Boxster problem and not to worry about it until the shock starts leaking. That it is just noise and no damage can happen from this. The car has 25000 miles on it any advice would be helpful.
