Battery Charging
Do I need to take the battery out to charge it, or can I just put the charger on the posts with the battery connections connected? Thanks
|
I bought the battery tender which plugs into the cigarette lighter port. Very convenient. I keep it on during winter storage.
BTW: I also use a battery tender on my Harley davidson during the winter. It cost about $50 less than the porsche unit..... hmmmm...... same technology |
You can charge the battery in the car, just dont try to use too much amperage as you will get overheating and gassing, I would also keep the cover off and give it some time on a slow charge.

I have used a trickle charge and a rapid charge on a large commercial battery charger and have suffered no ill effects on the boxster.

That's why the battery tender is such a great tool. It senses when the battery's at full capacity and stops. No trickling at all. It's recommended to remove the electrical connection to the car when charging at the battery. Obviously you can't do that if you're charging through the lighter. |
I have probably charged a Porsche battery over 100 times with a 12 amp charger.
Always left the battery connected, no issues. :) |
