performance upgrades...
hello again my friends. yesterday i asked about wheel and tire upgrades for my 97 boxster, today i want to know what performance upgrades can be made. please share any experience and costs involved. perhaps there is an order in which they should be performed. also has anyone purchased an after market warranty for thier drivetrain. all this talk of major engine failure is a concern. if so what warranty and from whom. my car was purchased used as were most it seems. thank you. this thing is better at pulling money from my wallet than my 02 fatboy was.......ps it is a 2.5 liter ofcourse. al

Get the supercharger!!! Or do a 3.4 engine swap.

s/c nice but am contemplating an extended drive train warranty.....dont know if this will have ramifications. what about a more entry level upgrade. nothing that will effect warranty. how expensive is the engine swap??????????????

They're not easy to hop up. You can get a little performance and better sound with chips, exhausts and intakes, but to really go fast, you'll need to spend much cheese. If you're serious, consider the supercharger, which I'm quite sure will void any warranty.

Anything more than a catback muffler will void the factory warranty on the engine. I can't comment on aftermarket warranties, but I assume the same holds true there. If you are looking for serious hp gains the warranty is out of the question.

Are they doing superchargers for the 2.7L motor, or is the compression too high on the 2.7L?

TPC was making a 2.7 supercharger kit but they have discontinued them. Maybe if we could get enough people together they would do a run of them. Maybe a GROUP BUY???? The 2.5 kit is very similar but I understand that there are some issues with the way the pipes fit on the 2.5 vs the 2.7. Not sure about anyone else.
An extended warranty on a '97 is not such a great idea I think. Especially a limited "drive train" warranty. All the ones I have seen never seem to cover anything that actually breaks. I don't think that you will find anyone to write you a decent warranty on a 10 year old car. Call warranty Direct and see what they say. I would be interested to hear what they have to say.

Nope IA just not had enough people ask about the 2.7 to build a kit as of yet...
You may want to start a petition to have Stephen build one with an initial deposit from a few folks

That Gemballa Bi-Turbo setup looks great but I've heard that Turbos generate a lot more heat than Super Chargers. I've heard that the Boxster engine is more prone to blowup from a Turbo than a S/C. I don't know if this is true or not. So I'd defintely want to do some research before going the turbo route.

Yes. Your right. That's why I said the S.C. would be better for our V6 cars. It's all about compresion ratios. Turbos seem to work better for 4-Cyl. engines. Like the Dodge SRT-4, VW GOLF, SUBARU IMPREZA, etc...they are all 4-Cyl.

We have flat 6 or horizontally opposed or "boxer" 6's, NOT V6's!!!!!
