What is the service cost for the 30K on a 2002 Boxster S? any help would be appreciated

I guess your talking about the 30K maintenance. I would do those yourself.

Oil Change, Engine Air Filter Change and Spark Plugs. Easy to do in your driveway or garage. :cheers:

It would be a wonderful thing to be able to have the time to do all of those wonderful things. But presently I would like to have it done at a Porsche Dealership. Any help on service cost would be appreciated. :cheers:

I paid 780 for mine at my local Pcar dealer. You can do it yourself if you are able/capable and have the time/tools, but they go through the car and do a lot more than I could ever do.

I take it as a "check-up" physical for the car at certain intervals.

It varies quite a bit from dealer to dealer and indie shops.

Your service may need to include
 

additional items beyond those specified for the 30k just because your car is 5 years old and has accumulated insufficient mileage to have those items serviced at the mileage interval.

Faced with the same situation (twice) I asked that the 60k be done sooner just because it included items that are normally needed on a time interval basis as well as those based on mileage.

Brake fluid change, transmission fluid, differential, serpentine belt are all things that come to mind.

Also have them specifically inspect the AOS and the front motor mount.

In Long Island I was told it would run about $ 1,500.00. After going through a $ 800 dollar clutch job I thought it was a bit much. Roslyn Motors. I will call the other dealers for the pricing of said maintenance. Could I have misunderstood the currency in which the service was being quoted? $ 1,500 pesos seem about right. :rolleyes:

You should be able to get a 30K done at a dealer for $1300 or so, and for $600-$800 at a Porsche specialist. Just ballpark figures.

Just paid $400 at the local dealer last week on my 2002 base model.

Beyond my $400, I did choose to get the brake fluid flushed as they suggested (and MikeFocke lists above).

All in all, I walked out of there quite happy and with little damage to the wallet.

CLEARLY I need to move to PA!!! I have never heard of such low rates from a dealer.

The dealer was actually in Delaware near my office. Winner Porsche of Newark, DE. Very reasonable people and the main service guy is an active member of the local PCA chapter.

I had also called at 4:45 pm on a Friday and they squeezed me in that next Monday, saying "Well, 30k service on an 02 isn't that hard".

Was quoted a price of $850 at the Porsche dealer in Scottsdale and read online to expect to pay $700 - $1350 from a dealer. I decided to try my local service guy that I have used for years on my other imports and he did it for $338. I outlined all I wanted done based on my owners manual.

Today after a short drive I park the car and come back to find a large puddle of anti-freeze under the car. As I sit here waiting for the tow truck, drinking my second beer thinking: maybe I should have taken it to the dealer.

The 15k and 30k services are just glorified oil changes especially for the later models. Anybody with 1-2 hours simple tools and a floor jack can handle it. Read the manual, it isn't rocket science. You pay a premium for that stamp in your service book. I say keep your wallet fatter and diy.

Certainly second that. If you can swap your own fluids, change sparkplugs, and an air filter and just generally look over the car you're in great shape on your own. I dont mind paying $80-100/ hr in shop rate, but when the dealer wants $800 for 3 hours of work and $200 in materials I have a real problem with that.

The only problem you might have is the liability issue of voiding the warranty. Having the car service for the maintenance might do that not that I am an authority on the warranty. I know oil changes you can get away with, but I have also heard stories from other Porsche owners that an acquaintance blew the engine due to improper filters etc installed by a non Porsche dealer. That to me sounds real plausible and an inducement to have it service by the dealer. As everything with the car it is what it is expensive.

I don't think they can revoke the warranty just because people don't take their cars to get serviced at authorized Porsche stealerships. If that is the case then there are a lot of Porsche owners out there with useless warranties. I've pampered my car, serviced it correctly, and it looks pristine, if they don't warranty a problem if it arises then all hell will break loose. :mad: Sorry, but I won't pay $800 dollars or so for some visual checks and an oil change.

DIY is always the cheaper option, but many ppl are mechanically-challenged! I would rather pay $$$ for an expert to service my boxster vs. me trying to DIY and end up screwing up the car....

I look at it like getting a hair cut, we all can DIY but we pay $ to get it done... compared to the $100/hr a dealer charges, the $15 i paid for less than 10 minutes is equally expensive!!! :p

I had my 30K service done about two years ago (I now have 38,000 on the car) and I don't remember what it cost but I know for sure it was not anywhere near $1,300 or $1,500 because then I would remember it. I'll check my receipt and edit this post later.

These dealers are all over the place with their prices. When I lived in CA I had my car serviced by Rusnak in Westlake and they always surprised me with how reasonable service cost was. Now in NY I was going to Huntington Porsche and they are very expensive for everything. I needed a rear wheel baring replaced and I needed an oil change so I told them to do the oil change since they had the car there anyway. They marked me up $4/qt of oil, charged me $10/qt. when I can buy the same Mobil 1 0W-40 at Walmart for $5.97/qt. and the charged me $150 labor for the oil change. Now I do whatever I can myself which I enjoy anyway.

I was amazed last year when I was calling around to the local dealers in the area for a quote for the 30k mile service :

I also asked them each what that entailed and they all read back the same list.

Obviously I went with dealer #6, but I was amazed that dealer #2 wanted $1,500 for the exact same service !
