Why when he/she shifted did it seem like the RPM shot up to redline everytime?

CJ_Boxster 04-26-2007 10:59 AM

Im going to say that the car was on jackstands during that acceleration. Why wouldnt you want a second camera looking at the road so we can see what 200mph looks like.....

Also, that would have to be the smoothest riding car in the world to not shake as little as it did at 200mph.

Frank Patrick 04-26-2007 11:39 AM

Great clips

Thanks for sharing, even with the language barrier-Porsche was the clear winner.

TriGem2k 04-26-2007 12:04 PM

Couldn't have been on jackstands. The car barely crawls from 130-200mph. If it was in a closed and controled environment the engine shouldn't have that much trouble getting up to 200mph.

Thats one amazing piece of American Engineering...

hmmm....kind of boring, would have been cool to see the road a little......anyone see this? I saw this on another board...
Motor Trend June 2007

Under heading "America's Best Handling Car"

In order from #10 to #1

Honda CSi
Corvette Z06
MazdaSpeed3
Honda S2000
BMW 3 Series

Mini Cooper S JCW GP
Mitsubishi EVO
Lotus Exige S
Cayman S
911 GT3

They were seduced, in the end, by the 415 horsepower and ceramic brakes despite "enormous rear tires with a tread compound that could wear out before your first oil change".

There were 8 ratings on steering feel, steering accuracy, steering weight/heft, chassis composure, chassis response, chassis control, cockpit ergonomics, fun-to-drive. The Cayman was never worse than 3rd and mostly second or tied for second. It was second in the Fun-To-Drive category to the GT3.

These are not price adjusted ratings.

I always knew the vettes handled like junk from personal experience but I am shocked they are that far down the list...needless to say we all know the box handles better also....

Sorry to disagree but the current Corvettes don't handle like junk! Personally, I would be happy to take to the track with the current models any of them.
PS- The current Z06 will drop a GT3 pretty nicely. That does not make the GT3 a bad car, it fact, it is a great car.

It just makes the Zo6 pretty darn good too!

hmmm...I was trying to find this to see what they said in detail but being out handled by a mazda speed and a bmw 3 series....yuck....I mean if it gets out handled by a bmw 330 sedan, or whatever model they are on, to me that's just well....not right.....

trust me I am a corvette fan, it was second choice to the box but I'm not wearing the Heartbeat of America blinders....both generation vettes I had handled like junk....I stopped at the C5

John V 04-26-2007 04:48 PM

Yeah, 'vettes handle like junk. I guess all those stock-class (not to mention street prepared and prepared) Corvettes must have just used their power to beat out all manner of Elises, 911s, Caymans and M3s for their SCCA Solo National Championships. Yep.

shoot, I forgot the amount of time I spend commuting daily on the track :D as you would say...yep

I recognize its just my opinion based on the 2 vettes I have owned....still have one by the way drove it this week and on the ramps I take at 45 with the box I took at maybe 30 with the vette, if that, considering the back end really skipping at every bump....but for what its worth, go ahead and buy one and take it out on a nice rainy night....it's only your death :D

I'll be safe in the box.....

ps....it wasn't my list of cars that out handled the vette and there are definitely more out there....but here it is again....so I can't be the only one not impressed by its handling.....

Here, here Z06! Someday I would like to add one to the stable for those days when I feel like blowing off some steam.

I have a 2004 Z06 that I track all the time with PCA clubs. A lot of car handling is indeed in the driver's hands, but I run the advanced group, and i can tell you that overall, the only Porsche's that can stay with Z06's(either C5 or C6) on a road course, are turbo's and GT3's. I have run with PCA clubs approximately 50-60 events over the last 6 years at tracks all over the country, and this has been my experience.

hey before you beat on me, we have a Boxster S and I love the car.

It took Chevrolet 50 years, but starting with the 2001 Z06, they developed a car with high HP for flat out speed, incredible low-end torque in every gear to power through apex's, and a suspension that is just incredible.

there's a reason so many Z06's turn up at PCA HPDE events all over the country.

Frank Patrick 05-22-2007 01:44 PM

06 Z06

Having both the Vette and the Boxster I can sefely say both cars are amazing in their own way. I make a living out of flying so I am not impressed with just speed.
I can not think of too many, short of some of the euro exotics, that will beat the Z06.

Brucelee 05-22-2007 03:42 PM

The Z06 is a wonder and they have that BLUE DEVIL in the works.

Wow.

SC986 05-22-2007 05:36 PM

I recently drove a C6 that had the Blue Devil type work done. I'm here to tell you it was mighty impressive so I can only imagine a Z06!

It handled better than I expected, and the seats were way more comfortable than my sport seats.

If I could own a few more non exotic cars, the Vette would be one, but there's just something about the Boxster, I wouldn't be able to just swap it for a Vette.

Yes, they are very different cars.

I like them both for what they are.

I agree, I've had plenty of seat time behind a more powerful C6, but I still rather drive my boxster. Just something about it......

Now if one of us Boxster owner's posted this thread showing our cars going almost 200 MPH, Brucelee would have locked-down the thread. :)

It's good to be the King.

Thanks for the insult, I can always count on you for one.
