Price opinion for a 1980 911SC......
 

Hi all.

I am looking for an honest opinion on what the asking price should be for a 1980 911 SC, under 100k miles on original engine, last ran about 10yrs ago, been parked for a long time, inside my garage.

I has an all steel slope nose conversion, interior is 7 of 10, exterior has some dings, dents. NO MAJOR BODY, DRIVETRAIN ISSUES.

Last know mechanical issue is the output bearing on the transmission whines a bit.

1 owner, purchased in 1979, new.

What do you all think it may be worth?...

Honestly somewhere between $3k-$30k. No way to price this car without a lot more detail including pics, engine and trans eval, rust inspection, paint inspection, mods inspection, serial # verification etc.

If you are in a hurry I can probably give you $3k for it today...

The car is mine, my father gave it to me a few years back.

I parked it when he bought a boxster which we (dad and I) supercharged.

I then moved, got married, had a child, lost track of time and now have no time or interest in getting it running.

If I remember right, it is actually a Weissach edition but we found that out too late, by then the car had been modified with the slope nose and wider rear fenders.

I've had a few offers, one for $20k cash, I just don't know how to gauge this.

$20k sounds like good money for a modified SC that has sat 10 years with dings dents and a transmission issue :)

I’d agree that $20k is good money for a modified non-running SC.

Yes $20k for a slantnose roller sounds like a slam-dunk. Take the cash!

I'm always keeping an eye out for 70's and 80's 911's. Stock, unrestored cars are kings in the Porsche world. Cars with modded bodywork, especially slantnoses and updates (like an SC with 993 bumpers) are at the bottom of the price range, usually low to mid $20k's for decent drivers (which is fine with me since those are the ones I like). Funny how things turned out backwards in the Porsche world - a decade ago people would pay major $$$ to update their cars and now the expensive ones are the backdated ones. This one is comparable to yours and just sold today on BaT for $21k and though some aspects of yours are better (one-owner, lower mileage), I would say this one is a better car overall:

Let's start with a good price for a running, well-maintained 911SC coupe with 100K miles: Over $35K but likely under $40K, so somewhere in the high-$30's. Subtract $3K-5K for a targa or cabrio.

Subtract $5K for the transmission
Subtract $5K for the non-original bodywork
Subtract $5K-8K for not running in 10 years (tires, shocks, major service, fuel tank/system flush, a/c refurb, and a couple of unexpected items)

This leaves the car somewhere in the low-20's. If you can find a buyer at $25K, take it without discussion. $20K might be on the low end, so selling at that price probably depends on how badly you want to sell the car.
