WWII Then and Now Photos

I was over in East Berlin 20 something years ago shortly after the wall fell, the difference between it and West Berlin was astounding. You could still see the bullet divots plain as day in the building corners where soldiers must of been hiding from enemy fire, very eerie. Here's a cool site where they've merged pics from then and now around the different theaters from WWII:

9 Haunting Then-And-Now Photos Of World War II Europe

Sorry, I'm a World War II Buff, Very interesting stuff then and now in regards to how it has affected modern events.

I saw a few church cathedrals in germany with bullet divots in the concrete and blocks.

Dad was there (axis) and has lots of info on what really occured as opposed to what the US history books document. Winner writes their version for posterity I suppose.

I had a hard time in school history assignments because dad wanted to edit my homework, but the teachers would have failed my projects if I turned it in with dads edits.

I'm afraid the hard lessons of armed conflict is being lost on the newer generations.

We just see the aftermath on our latest vets.

I was in Berlin shortly before the wall came down. I wish every American could have seen the stark difference between the west side of the wall with its colorful graffiti and the east side of the wall with its no man's land and watch towers with machine guns.

Still use this paperweight to this day, got it shortly after the wall fell when over there.

The wife and I got mixed up on where we were going using the subway system first day in Berlin, we came up to street level on the east side and it was like walking into a different world.

New war coming soon in the Ukraine if the politicians and generals are allowed to dictate actions.

Instead of Germany invading Poland and having the Brits try to help we may see Russia invading the Ukraine and the US trying to help.

Sounds like a very dangerous situation that pits the top military loaded countries against each other. Both nuclear equipped, full of bravado and in need of boosting their countries economies.

When I was there the starkest difference were the cars. The police had Ladas and the wWestern Germans would ignore them and treat the autobahn as a speed limit free road as they were used to knowing the Ladas topped out at about 110 kph. The Eastern German Police got no respect, something I am sure they were not used to.
