Happy hour for me!
Just got the replacement super charger for my bmw m-coupe, stoked!

I've seen a lot of those "turbo-compressor-housing-with-pulley-attached" superchargers on BMWs (Active Auto Werkes is the brand I remember). Seems like a great alternative when space is tight.
Are there any tradeoffs to using this kind of blower? How much boost do those make? How does the boost come on? |
This is an early Active Autowoerks kit, installed on the car back in 2004 we think. I got lucky and was introduced to another tuner that sourced this new Supercharger unit for me.
Trade off is the Rotrex units are not designed to be rebuilt. But if cared for properly should last 50-80k miles. We decided the old one failed a bit prematurely due to the bracket being bent. Boost level depends on the model. This is a C30 and should be able to push up to 12-14psi. I'll be pushing about 7-8 psi on my set-up for now on a stock motor. Boost comes on smooth in my set-up. The combination of the 3.2L motor with good low end torque and then the boost progressively feeding in just keeps you planted in your seat :D |
Must be one hell of a setup in an already stout M coupe.
Did you dyno it with the previous supercharger installed? |
no one ever dynoed it previously, was lining up a dyno session and then the seal started leaking. So we'll never know what it was making with the old SC!

I owned a '99 M-coupe for a brief period of time. I later traded toward a '00 M-roadster. Fun cars, but very different from the boxster. They were more "boulevardier" by comparison. Especially the roadster.

I would not classify my m-coupe as boulevardier LOL
