Hi there,

My name is philip. I have a small workshop as second occupation for over 30 years now. Mosty Italian vehicles. (fiat alfa romeo and lancia) 4 years ago I went out of my comfort zone with the porsche boxster i bought. I'ts a 2.7 986 from 2000 with 252 000 km (today 276000 km) My small official workshop allows me te create verry interesting relations with other professionals, so I'm always interested is advice, support, assistance and willing to return the favour. Bought a broken 986 2.7 to study the concept. Broken piston they said. Cut open oil filter can be used as Christmass decoration ! One of the pistons is totaly shatered including the connecting rod. Metal shavings everywhere ! Some bent valves. But what I don"t get is the large amount of metal shavings in the plastic intake manifold !?

Ims looks new and feels great ! Can annyone explain me what went wrong ?

Welcome to the forums Phil! If the engine shattered the piston it's safe to assume some may have made it's way up the intake after the cylinder lost compression

Okay, thanks for the reply. But how did the piston exlplode ? To hig revs ? Or a "money shift" as they call it ? Extra info : IMS feels like new but the centre bolt that holds the IMS in place is broken to. (it was rambling inside the shaft, i was able to fiddle it partially out and found out it was broken just behind the thread !http://986forum.com/forums/uploads02...1701523218.jpg

Update :

After further dismantling of the engine and adding up all the damage to the engine, ther is only one possible cause for al that mayhem ! HYDROLOCK !

On a rather high rev the engine swalowed some wather. The engine is full of mayo (or italian dressing as they call it) one piston completely shatered inculding the conrod, one bent conrod and 4 bent valves.

comparing it to youtube demo's of "what happens whet a engine hydro locks" exact same dammage.
